I was asked to contribute a poster to the Nifty–50 Project themed around the concept of ‘Money’…
The project was organised by Socio Design who invited 50 creatives from around the world to interpret the word ‘Money’. The fifty posters were printed as an edition of one and sold through a process of sealed bids. All proceeds from the project went to the Countess Mountbatten Hospice Charity.
‘Moola’ is one of my favourite slang words for ‘money’ but I was also drawn to the arrangement of its letters and appealing forms. It evokes the perception of a large amount of money so I decided to be generous when drawing its curves. The most plausible theory as to its origin seems to be the connection with the Irish term “moll oir’ meaning “pile of gold”.
